Dog Days of Summer Redefined

Dog Days of Summer Redefined

This month started off like a firecracker, a Firecracker Regatta that is! The Viridian Sailing Center’s first ever regatta was hosted on July 1st with competitors coming from across the metroplex. Although the rainy weather delayed the competition, we got to see some of the finest sailing displayed here in the community yet. There’s nothing more challenging than sailing in light winds.

The sun came out in time for the award ceremony and a long dinner table was set up on the docks for the participants and guest of the regatta. The sounds from Viridian Stars and Stripes, a free event to the public with live music, could be heard across Lake Viridian as we dined on a delicious meal prepared by Blue Mesa. The competitors had a blast and enjoyed the hospitality, taking home great prizes and memories. They are looking forward to next regatta hosted by the Viridian Sailing Center

That evening, Lake Viridian became a spectacular canvas for the music timed fireworks display. Viridian Pass Holders gathered on the lantern lit dock for the best view in the neighborhood. What a great way to start a sizzling Forth of July weekend.

With this month’s temperature ticking up into the 100 degree range, Stephen and I walk Blitz to the Viridian beach to play fetch in the waves. Her doggie paddle has much improved since when we first adopted her. I’m so happy she has plenty of places to get exercise in the community, especially when the weather getting so hot.

Ladies Paddle Boarding, which happens to be every second Saturday of the month, has had its largest group of ladies yet! And with the new paddle board pass, more are sure to come. I’m so happy to see fellow neighbors and guest joining in on the fun. We took our flotilla of paddle boards about the lake until our tummies started grumbling. We enjoyed a hearty brunch at Lazy Dogs on the patio, accompanied by delicious bubbly mimosas and fresh hot coffee. I was in heaven and ready to spend the rest of the afternoon napping in my new hammock but alas much Real Estate transactions needed to be tended to before an evening out with friends!

The following Saturday was the Artisans Market at Overlook Park. That day was a special market, as there were dog adoptions hosted by the Trinity GAP Club. There was so much puppy love to be had! And to keep market goes “as cool as cats,” the Viridian Sailing Center offered free rides on the catamarans from the nearby beach. It was delightful to see cautious first time sailors venture out on the water because they always want to go out again. Just like the kids in the Viridian Junior Sailing Camps, they jump off the boat grinning from ear to ear.

To finish this month, the first place winner of the Firecracker Regatta came out to Lake Viridian on a Wednesday Race Night to demonstrate to pass holders how to rig the Areos for lighter wind competitions. I’m ready to sail into August with even more gusto now!
