Time For A Healthy Heart, A Time To Love and Be Loved

Time For A Healthy Heart, A Time To Love and Be Loved

Introducing Resident Ambassador Blogger Rachel Coward. Rachel will be writing a blog article every month about her adventures in Viridian, starting with this one!

It’s February and we’ve been gearing up for the Viridian Sweetheart Stroll, a 5k and 1K to promote heart health and heart disease awareness in our community. Because the weather has been so sunny and mild here in Arlington Texas, I’ve been able to walk out my front door and hop onto the local trails each week with my dog, Blitz. Since my husband and I worked from home, we took a break from phone calls and emails to take a brisk walk along Lake Viridian this morning. It was nice to get some fresh air and quality time with my sweetheart!!

And forget flowers and chocolates - I already know what Stephen is getting me for Valentine’s Day, a Fitbit! I’m so excited!! I saw it in the Amazon shopping cart last night (don’t tell him)! I made a hint to him the other night that I wanted one just like his. I got so jealous when he showed his GPS tracked jogging and biking routes along the community and River Legacy Park trails. He did all 12 miles in one set! It also monitors heart rate, calories burned and connects with my smartphone, so when a client messages me when I’m out on the trail, I will get an instant notification. But what I’m nervous about is that my Fitbit will link up to the bathroom scale…oh dear!!

But nevertheless, we are starting to look pretty good to one another and feel good! Since January, I’ve been routinely going to yoga and Zumba at the Lake Club each Saturday and Stephen has been running and biking around Lake Viridian 3 times a week. We both dropped 10 lbs. so far! Go team!

It’s amazing how affordable and convenient it is to stay fit in this community. And we are making friends who want to be active and healthy too. I’m looking forward to the future health benefits gained from just living here. I hope to be just as healthy as my grandparents who will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this month!! We fly to Florida to see them this month.

I’m sure if I were to ask my grandparents what their secret to a happy marriage would be, they would say “enjoy life, keep it simple. It’s not a sprint but a marathon.”

Award-winning Viridian is one of the only master-planned communities in Texas designed to meet Audubon Gold Signature Standards. Boasting acres of lakes, streams and waterways, the enclave offers residents a sailing club, fitness center and activities planned by a full-time lifestyle director. Viridian is located south of Highway 183 and north of Interstate 30 approximately 20 minutes from downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth.

Rachel Coward has been a resident of Viridian since May 2016. When not helping people buy and sell homes at DEN Property Group, Rachel — along with husband Stephen — can often be found on Viridian’s trails, biking to River Legacy Park, or at the sailing center testing their skills on an Aero or Quest sailboat. Holding a degree in environmental design from Texas A&M, Rachel particularly admires how the community has been mapped to provide exceptional quality of life, with parks and amenities in walking distance.
