Enjoy the Ultimate Staycay in Viridian

No need for Viridian residents to hit the road for summer fun. Sailing, exploring trails, soaking in the sun poolside, teaching young family members about dinosaurs of the past and wildlife of today — it’s all right here.

Viridian is more than a community of homes, it’s a virtual playground for fun-loving families. Viridian Lake Club — perched on a 6-acre peninsula overlooking Lake Viridian — boasts not one, but six pools, as well as a beach area with volleyball, an amphitheater, outdoor pavilion with a fireplace and TVs, tennis courts and an event lawn. Membership to the Viridian Sailing Center gives you access to a variety of sailboats that can be raced along Lake Viridian. Residents bike or jog along Lake Slope Park, and the family Fido can happily chase balls leash-free at Arrowhead Park. Our youngest residents dig Fossil Park, where they can uncover dinosaur “bones” and climb on “dino-mite” play structures. Trails in Viridian connect with the extensive trail system in nearby River Legacy, meaning long-distance hikers, bicyclists and runners can go that extra mile.

And if that’s not enough, there are a variety of planned events happening practically every week. Luckily for those who have not yet made the move to Viridian, there are several events open to the public.

Spend Part of the Summer in Viridian

Salute the Fourth of July in Viridian. The annual Stars & Stripes kicks off July 4th festivities with a thrilling fireworks show Sunday, July 1. There will be plenty of activities for children, as well as a host of food trucks and live music. The public is invited to join us starting at 5 p.m. at 1001 Viridian Park Lane.

Bark in the park. The July Artisan Market will unleash a variety of pet-related vendors 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Overlook Park, 1210 Viridian Park Lane. Adorable, adoptable pets will be available, and a benefit will be held for a local pet rescue organization.

Light up your Friday nights with a movie. As the sun goes down, the lights will come up for our Movie in the Park series each Friday in August. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, picnic baskets and coolers to watch Wonder, Aug. 10; Jumanji, Aug. 17; A Dog’s Purpose, Aug. 24; and Jaws, Aug. 31. It all happens 7 p.m. -10 p.m. at Overlook Park, 1210 Viridian Park Lane.

Beat the heat. The Aug. 18 Artisan Market: Some Like It Hot will focus on gardening for hot weather. Learn the plants that best tolerate blistering summer temperatures during a special presentation at 9:30 a.m. as well as landscaping for water conservation during an 11 a.m. discussion. Nothing is hotter right now than goat yoga, which will be happening 10 a.m. to noon, with proceeds benefiting a local charity. And if you find the weather too hot after shopping the local vendors, you can take a catamaran ride around the lake. The market opens at 8 a.m. at 1210 Viridian Park Lane.

Channel your inner superhero. We’re combining fitness and superheroes for our Sept. 15 Artisan Market, with a variety of local fitness vendors joining our regular artisanal retailers at the monthly fair. The market kicks off at 8 a.m., but stick around for a discussion about how to garden in small spaces at 9:30, Happy Goat Yoga for Charity from 10 a.m. to noon and a bird feeder pine cone craft at 11 a.m.

You’ll Wish You Lived Here

There is a variety of clubs that bring people together for Bunco, bridge and to discuss books and wine, but our wonderful Director of Fun has a wealth of special events planned for the summer that will give Viridian residents another reason to play.

Fancy more fireworks? We’re holding our Stars & Stripes fireworks show July 1 so residents can attend Light Up Arlington on July 3. Should be a blast!

Float and watch. Residents will be heading to the pool for a Dive-In Movie Night July 13 to see Lego Ninjago. And what movie-going experience would be complete without snacks and drinks?

Do you know what a bunch of bunnies is called? We’ll be testing the trivia skills of our residents during a fun evening Aug. 3. And just in case they ask, a group of bunnies is a fluffle.

Summer isn’t over until we say it is. Going back to school can’t happen without one last party, and we will be throwing one for residents Aug. 11 complete with games, prizes, food and a DJ.

Wine and dine in September. You could say our September resident events have a theme — there’s Wine Down Wednesday Sept. 12, a Picnic in the Park Sept. 14 that also features live music and Brewsday Tuesday, Sept. 18.

For the bargain hunter. Our Fall Yard Sale is going to be so big, we’re spreading it over two days, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23. If you’re a fan of garage sales, you won’t want to miss this mega event.

Honk if you love trucks. Our young (and not so young) Viridian residents love fire trucks, dump trucks, police cars and the many different kinds of vehicles that will be at the Sept. 29 Touch-A-Truck event.

 Just Down the Road

Catch a game. Viridian is only about 4 miles away from AT&T Stadium, where the Dallas Cowboys hold court, 5 miles away from Globe Life Park for Rangers’ fans and 6 miles away from College Park Center if you want to cheer for the WNBA Dallas Wings.

Pick an amusement park. Two Six Flag theme parks are located less than 5 miles away from Viridian. Hop in the car and head to Hurricane Harbor for wild rides in the water — or take your thrill-seekers to Six Flags Over Texas, 212 acres of fun.

Prepare to be entertained. Texas Live Park is expected to open this summer offering a Guy Fieri restaurant; a gourmet burger eatery owned by Cowboys icon Troy Aikman; a PBR Cowboy Bar that can host 1,500 of your closest friends to watch concerts and ride a mechanical bull; the Live Arena, a 35,000-square-foot two-level concert and festival space; and the Arlington Backyard, which can hold 5,000 people eager for views of the Rangers’ field.

Choose a concert — out of 50 options. The Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Arlington offers more than 50 free outdoor concerts a year — with a wide range of options, from Texas country to the hottest Indie artists. And best of all, free music under the stars is an easy 10-minute drive from Viridian.

Sample some suds. Beer enthusiasts have their choice of two breweries in the area — Legal Draft and Division. Why have one pint when you can sample a couple flavors in the taproom and support local brewers?

Hit the green. Golf lovers have two options nearby — Riverside and Rolling Hills. Set your tee time and spend the day improving your game.
